In June, SMA members, wives and various hangers-on were treated to the cruise of a lifetime in the exotic northwest.
Stu Shield's full report is available for download (MS Word doc, 5MB). Well worth a read. Highlights of the cruise are reported to be that:
- Nobody made a prat of themselves. Perhaps the beer was watered down?
- The weather was clement
- The tour guide talked continuously for six hours. Oh, for a CNCo 'lecky on board with a pair of wire cutters..
- Graeme Drewery talked for less, which at least allowed members to take a short nap
- Stu (and perhaps others who were not running in the opposite direction) sang "Ferry Across the Mersey" as the ship travelled from Liverpool to Birkenhead. Could this be the start of an SMA band? Terry and the Pacemakers, maybe?
- A tour of U-534, a U-boat cut into several pieces (best thing for it in my view - Ed.)
- No shopping for the ladies. Heck, we only had a day.
