Ship's Log Entries 1998

This is just a test from the Web-brat. If any of you ever get around to reading the entries on this page, please remember that Maryann and I will welcome any Swire friends at Pompano Beach, Florida, if you're over this way. Warm pool, cold beer. In England, it's the other way round ...

By 2008 or thereabouts an era in CNco and SPO will have come to an end with the retirement of a whole bunch of old farts. There are many tales and stories that, if not recorded, will be lost for all time. A number of years back there was a number of brilliant articles written by Joe Walford and others, and known as "Not the Swire News". This sort of humour about, and directed at, ourselves plus the tales and experiences of the last thirty or more years do need to be collected, collated and published. Where better than on the Web? We have raised the idea a number of times in the hope of gaining official sanction for it, but to date there have been no takers. Seeing your site, and the way Stuart's idea has blossomed, makes me wonder if the SMA might not be a most effective means of recording the goings on of the seafaring branch of the Swire family. There are some wonderful tales to tell.Best regards to all,David Fellowes

Good to see the Swire Mariner's Association getting such good support. Am I eligible to join yet? Joanne, Richard, Nicholas, Antonia and I will be back in Victoria B.C. at the end of October, we can be contacted at the address below till then. We will have a Canadian e.mail address around mid December, when we should be back in our own home. Will visit the visitors book once we are on line at home. Either I am the first to leave a comment or i'm not accessing this properly as my SMA Visitors Book is blank! Mark - whats up?

Try turning your computer on, Chris. No, seriously folks, if your entry doesn't appear here try reloading this page (not the entry itself) as sometimes your computer will call the page up out of hard disk memory rather than refreshing it. Clear as mud? - MAJB

Greetings Chuina 'coasters' all,I wish to make contact with former CNCo officers who were with the company in the late 1950s/early 1960s. I am in the process of writing a book covering my experiences while serving on the Pakhoi (NGAL run), Changsha (Aust/HK/Japan run), Chefoo (South Pacific service), Hupeh (HK/Bangkok/Japan run), Szechuen (HK/Taiwan), and the Kweilin (HK/West Australia/Japan run) between 1958 and 1963. If you have any interesting stories of relevance I would be pleased to here. Does anyone know whether there are any other books/articles written by former CNCo officers covering this period?
