The Dynamic Duo - the only way to cross?

I say, David, isn't that the Needles ahead?

News reaches us of David Walker's epic voyage to the Great Lakes, by way of Portugal, the Canaries, and Bermuda. DRW left Newton Ferrers, with David Falkner, on Sunday 10th June. Geoff Havilland last heard from them by way of a postcard from Oporto (very nautical, David) confirming doctor Morsman relieved by Trevor Kay-Russell. JTKR plans to remain to the Canaries - thence the two Davids will sail on to Bermuda. Updates will be posted as known. Hope they've got plenty of Gin - MAJB

Aha. Here's an update already, by UPS (Unbelievable Pigeon Service):

"After an early morning rounding of Cape St. Vincent on the morning of 25th June, a safe entry was made into Lagos, Portugal. Here Capt. Walker's personal gynocologist was discharged and joining crewmember JTKR was signed on. Following two days of shore leave R&R (wot, already, JTKR? - Ed.) along the waterfront bars of Lagos, the voyage recommenced at the crack of noon on 27th, following morning prayers and cocktails. It was soon evident that the run to the Canaries was going to need to be executed in the shortest possible time in view of the limitations on stowage of the Captain's bonded stores. Fortune favoured the endeavour and with a cracking good Force 4-5 on the quarter, a 4 1/2 day crossing was achieved.

In Las Palmas, friendly commuications were quickly established with the native chief of the bar at the end of the jetty, a relationship that strengthened and grew over the succeeding seven days. Chief Officer David Falkner expressed disappointment that efforts were not being made to establish similar relationships further inland but, in true democratic fashion, Capt. Walker overruled this suggestion on the grounds of energy conservation.

After a few days here JTKR was discharged into the safekeeping of his wife for drying out and joining crewmember Colin was signed on. Colin, a youthful Scotsman of uncertain background but keen for adventure quickly adapted to the ways of cafe life and bought several rounds.

Having carefully restowed the boat stores to allowing storage of the required number of cases of J&B and taken water appropriate to this quantity, SANTANA again took to sea on 9th July heading southwards in search of the easterly Trades. Thus did an Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman set out to make the Atlantic crossing to Bermuda, hoping to make the voyage in 18 days before the J&B ran out. Capt. Walker's last words were those of a true adventurer, 'If things look bad, we'll just have to put more water in it'

ETA Hamilton 27th July from where further bulletins may be expected"

Note the strategically placed wind generator on top of Falkner's cranium, used to stimulate brain cells after J+B

And yet more, again from displaced yachtie JTKR:

"I gather the lads have made it safely to Bermuda. Arrived there last Monday evening. A good crossing until about 36 hours out when the weather got nasty and they had to head south. Apparently, DRW went up forward to sort something out at which time the boat found a hole in the ocean and dropped about 20'. DRW landed on his face and is now better looking than he was. The rumour that this happened after they arrived may be unfounded.

Crewmember Colin discharged on medical grounds, unclear whether kidney problems or mental instability. ETD next Monday, 6th, after rehydration and people repairs."
