The Douglas DC-3 for Microsoft Flight Simulator FS2002

 

FS2002 Repaints

 

Based on Jan Visser's legendary DC-3 model for FS2000, updated for FS2002, all the models listed below include transparent cockpit and cabin windows, pilots, nightlighting, fully detailed and lit 3D interior with opening cargo doors or passenger door, boarding ladder or steps, cargo both inside and outside the aircraft (freight version) and other details. Accurate flight Dynamics are by Erik Ellis, Jan Visser, Roy Chaffin, Ian Ropper, & Bill Rambow, with some slight modifications by Mark Beaumont and Curt Yardey. Models have full navigational lighting including the FS2002 lights "fix" by Paul Pridmore.  All these repaints are by Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont, and (apart from being linked below) are available at key flight simulation sites Avsim.com, Flightsim.com and Simviation.com .  There are also other DC-3 repaints from other authors to be found at these sites.  Note that the FS2002 aircraft below will function in FS2004 but without prop circles or prop animation.

Douglas C-47 Dakota 12963 painted as KG790, "P" of 437 "Tusker" Squadron, "Canucks Unlimited", SEAC, Oct 1944. This aircraft is similar to KN456, flying with the Canadian Warplane Heritage in Hamilton, Ontario, but wears Olive Drab rather than standard RAF Camouflage. The roundels for the South East Asia Campaign had no red in the center, so that there was no confusion with Japanese Forces.

Aircraft no. 4423, fuselage number 224, with the USAAC serial no. 41-18385, tail no. 118385, this C-47 was rolled out of the Douglas plant on 4th June, 1942.  She went on to become Cathay Pacific's founding aircraft as the DC-3 "Betsy".

The DC-3 'Betsy'  returned to Cathay Pacific Airways in 1983.  This is the aircraft in cargo configuration.  She was restored to her original livery and flew home; but now, sadly, is reduced to taking  pride of place in the Hong Kong Science Museum where she can be seen today.

Douglas DC-3 BEA 'Pionair' G-AHCZ

G-AHCZ was a Mk.III built in Oklahoma City and delivered to BOAC in 1946. It was transferred to BEA in 1947 and named 'Charles Samson', becoming a 'Pionair' Class DC-3 with modifications including an air-stair door. It flew the last BEA service between Northolt and Jersey in 1954 and was transferred to Cambrian Airways in 1959.

Delta’s 'Ship 41', a Douglas DC-3 Dakota with Wright Cyclone powerplants, was originally delivered to Delta in 1940 and was the first DC-3 to be used by the airline on commercial services. A full restoration was completed in 1999.

South Pacific Airlines of New Zealand (SPANZ) operated from December 1960 to February 1966, providing services on a range of routes nationwide. Formed by two ex-NAC Captains, the airline operated three of its own aircraft, of which ZK-BYD 'Ernest Rutherford' (c/n 13906) was one.

National Airways Corporation ZK-AWP

The DC-3 ZK-AWP served with New Zealand National Airways Corporation from July 1952, and was one of the last DC-3s retired from their fleet. Initially operated as 'Powhaitere', the aircraft was named 'Kaitaia' after conversion to 'Skyliner' status in May 1963. She has more recently been fully restored in these colours.

NZ3551 joined the RNZAF's 42 Squadron in November 1953. She was converted to VIP configuration for the Royal Visit in 1953/54. NZ3551 was presented to the RNZAF Museum, Wigram in 1978 and remains there today in her RNZAF VIP colour scheme.  This download includes flight plans for the Royal Tour.

C-FLFR was originally delivered to the Royal Air Force on April 29, 1944.  She is now a valuable member of the Buffalo Airways team and is commonly put on skis for travel into the snow-covered Arctic.

This 1942 Dakota (c/n 12591, p/n 42-92755) was delivered to the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1944 and registered as CF-TEB with Trans-Canada Air Lines in September 1946, serving until 1961.  Later she was  registered to the Canadian Department of Transport.  She remains operational today as Buffalo Airway's C-FDTH.

This distinctive DC-3 (C-47-DL, 6108 USAAF 41-19465, delivered Dec. 1942) was used by Australian entertainer Garry McDonald, aka 'Norman Gunston', during a national tour in the late 1970's.

The Atlantic Refining Company of Los Angeles had two DC-3s. N596AR, which started life as a C-53, served between 1955 and 1990.  The aircraft was used by President Eisenhower as his personal transportation throughout the US and abroad, carrying the presidential seal on the left side of the aircraft and the national flags of countries visited.

She was first and now the only DC-3 to operate with Ansett/ANA and is an original DC3, not a conversion from a C47. She still flies today from Melbourne-Tullamarine, Victoria, Australia and is operated by the Ansett Historical Aviation Group.
