Built by Scotts’ Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. Ltd. Of Greenock for the China Navigation Company’s China coast-Indonesia trade, but on completion, in October 1950, was chartered to Cie. Des Messageries Maritimes for France/South Pacific/Sydney service. In March 1952, sold to the Royal Navy (Buries Markes Ltd, London managers) and renamed in November 1952, Retainer. In 1954, converted to a storeship for the Far Eastern Fleet at Palmers Ltd, Tyneside (completed April 1955). On 19th November, 1979 arrived at Barcelona on tow from Rosyth, for breaking up by Desquaces Cataluna S.A., completed in early 1980.
