An old friend, Elmer Y.H. Chen from Hong Kong, who supplied us with Kai Tak IGS charts back in the old days of FS2000, has been busy since.
Elmer has created a 737 simulator in his Hong Kong apartment! Elmer writes:
"The whole planning takes about one year as I
purchased this simulator all the way from Germany. Firstly, through e
mails correspondances, I get the dimension, electrical requirement, etc.
of the simulator. I need to make sure it can be installed in my 5/F apt.
by moving up from ground level. Then I need to modify my apartment by
demolishing several walls (all
bedrooms amd master bathroom's walls) in order to fit it in. The company sent 4
persons to Hong Kong to install it. It takes about four days for set up
and testing. Since I specified to use three 65 inches plasma screens as
external visual devices instead of usual projection system, therefore,
the scenery looks excellent. It is a fixed based simulator, however, you
can still sense the movement due to the realistic surrounding plasma
screen effects. The simulator can be started from dark and cold cockpit
and also comes with functable FMC. In future, I may put the whole
simulator under a hydraulic jack to make it more realistic. The
simulator uses 4 PC. One just to drive FS2004 external scenery the three
remaining to drive the gauges,FMC..etc. Lastly, to put Cathay logo on is
a MUST final step.
Luckily, this apt. is not where I live in, but will become my flying
school soon."

Good one, Elmer!
