Changchow III (1950-52)

Dimensions 477' x 62'. Gross Registered tonnes 9403. Launched 31st July 1950.

Built by Scotts' Shipbuilding & Engineering Company Limited of Greenock, for the China Navigation Company's China coast Indonesia trade. On completion in 1951 she was chartered to Messageries Maritimes, for the France / South Pacific / Sydney service.

In April 1953 she was bought by the Admiralty for future conversion into a fleet replenishment ship. On 25th April she was renamed "Resurgent" and put under the management of British India Line. However, the charter to Messageries Maritimes continued. In 1956 "Resurgent" was handed back to its owners (China Navigation Company). She then went to Palmers Limited, Tyneside, for conversion into an armament stores issuing ship, in which capacity she joined the Far Eastern Fleet of the Royal Navy, based in Hong Kong.

On the 29th October 1966, "Resurgent" arrived in Sydney for the last time, as part of a Royal Navy flotilla, which came to Sydney for joint exercises with the Royal Australian Navy.

In 1979 "Resurgent" was laid up at Rosyth until March 1981 when she was sold to Asturamerican Shipping Co. She was then resold to spanish shipbreakers. "Resurgent" left Rosyth under tow on 5 May 1981, arriving in Avilez on 13th May 1981. She was towed up the river to Gijon where the final breaking-up commenced.
